Korniss Péter (Kolozsvár, 1937) a magyar fotográfia legendás alakja tavaly ünnepelte 80. születésnapját.

Péter Korniss (Cluj-Napoca, 1937), a legendary figure of Hungarian photography, celebrates his 80th birthday this year. Korniss’s work is one of the richest photographic œuvres of Hungary. He earned his reputation as a documentary photographer capturing traditional peasant life in Eastern Europe. This has been a central motif of his life’s work from his first photographs in the dance houses of Sic in 1967 to the most recent, somewhat conceptual series, of 'The Nativity Players' and 'The Women of Sic'.
In 1978, he started focusing on the life of commuter-workers and followed András Skarbit’s life for more than a decade. The series, 'The Guest Worker' (1988) is considered to be one of the milestones of Hungarian photography.

2017 was for Korniss Péter a year full of celebrations and exhibitions. Not only in Hungary but also in Sic/Szék, the village where he started is carrier in 1967, by making a series of photography of the still working dance houses. In 2017 he opened here a permanent exhibition about his dance house pictures in the new rebuild dance house of Forrószeg. Also on June 24 he opened here a new Dance house and Spinning room museum.

Both the new museum as Korniss Péter famous dance house pictures can here be visited throughout the year.  You are very welcome.
